Three friends.

Exploring the American West in sidecars.

More than one relative and motorcycle industry pundit looked at us cross-eyed. Actually, they all did. We decided to take two oddities, Ural sidecars, out of their crates and push them deep into the American West for 10,000 miles.

It’s a romantic notion we all dream of; load up your steed with only the essentials and, like any pioneer, head west into the great unknown to cross paths with its landscapes, its saints, and its sinners. To play in its outdoor wonders, and get lost and then found again in the process.

There’s something about self-inflicted struggle we’re used to here in the Northeast - so we forsook the comfort of traction control, heated grips, and the cruise button. Instead, we opted for the next thing up from traveling via stagecoach: the utilitarian and free-spirited nature of the Russian sidecar. We blended it with our own mixture of grit and simple ambition and chased the western sun for thirty straight days.

“Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” - Mark Twain

Now it's your turn.

Twain’s quote punched us in the head and heart last spring. We’d had enough Saturday night bar hopping. It was time to let the motorcycle change us once again. We hope Issue 022 hits you in the same way and that you decide to get outta dodge this year.

  1. Iron & Air magazine #22 4 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Jun 2016

Enjoyed the photographs and stories of the road. The bikes and equipment appeared to be mostly modern retro, it had a hipster feel to it. In the future maybe use more regular bikes This is the only Iron and Air magazine I've seen. Do like the variety of different brand bikes.

Came home beat the other night and found #22 in the mail...Sat back in an easy chair, sipped some silver tequila, and read the whole issue, cover to cover. Laughed out loud with the article about the dispencery stop and the "panicked calls" afterwords! Thank you for all you give to your readers!
